The first place to start is by emptying the fridge. You might find the easiest time to do this is the day before your big shop, when your fridge is at its emptiest. When you're going through what's left in your fridge, throw away anything that is out of date and place anything that you want to keep into a cool bag whilst you're busy cleaning.
So now that your fridge is empty, remove all shelves and drawers that you can and use hot soapy water to wash them down. Whilst they're drying, you can turn to the inside of the fridge. We suggest using natural cleaning solutions, such as lemon juice or a mixture of water and vinegar. Not only will these clean and remove any grime and gunk, but they can also help neutralise any lingering smells.
Once your fridge looks and smells good, it's time to check the drainage hole. This hole is usually at the bottom of your fridge, behind the fruit and veg drawer. There will be an implement in the hole to ensure it isn't blocked. If the hole is blocked, use the vinegar and water solution to flush through and push any dirt out. Cotton buds are also helpful for cleaning around the inner rim.
Now your fridge interior is clean, you can put back the shelves, drawers and remaining food that you kept. But make sure you don't forget about cleaning the fridge exterior! Soapy water would be perfect for that.
